Greetings Currently I have have a Paid Membership web archive and looking to transition it to IPFS if it supports a paid membership option. My archive is self funded and does not operate through grants or institutions. My concern is uploading 70,000 scanned articles of ephemera and have the site shut down or targeted for any reason. Can IPFS support a paid membership site with a high traffic volume? --Yvette
Last week there was a hackathon in Bucharest and I worked for a model for research papers. See some conclusions here: https://www.slideshare.net/kosson/open-research-coinage
I’m investigating #blockhain in deep to see what it would be the best tech to fulfill a precious feeble whisper: unifying research output with cultural heritage.
@kosson, I was really interested in seeing some of your block chain examples and diagrams. Have you thought about how block chain and ipfs can be used in the service of distributed peer review? I’d be interested in your thoughts and reactions to my recent post on the subject. It is no where as sophisticated as the kind of thing you’ve modeled, but it’s functional and might provide a interesting point of departure.
Not bad, not bad at all, I say. I took a look at IPFS since February this year, and it looks good, at least in the White Paper. Unfortunately I haven’t got the time to model a usecase scenario for what I have designed 2 weeks ago. Yet! My intent is somewhere around Christmas to program a bit around MultiChain and if I get a good understanding of IPFS until then, maybe use it.
I’ve read the post and it looks pretty useful, and in the same vein of what I have in mind. I need to take some time with your efforts to take in better. I need a little time. I will come back soon an the matter.
@kosson when you get the time and dig into a bit more, let me know if you want a reading/thinking/conversation partner. @flyingzumwalt had some great suggestions, Ipfs and distributed peer review, for further development. I’m really interested in the topic as it applies to publication, but I still feel like I’m playing catch up trying understand everything. It would be great to think through some of this stuff with someone with similar interests and who is a bit further along with blockchain expertise, etc.
@kosson have you seen this report http://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/bitstream/JRC108255/jrc108255_blockchain_in_education(1).pdf
Lots of interesting stuff about blockchain and its uses in the education / academy sector. See in particular section 7 for examples of “managing intellectual property” and section 8 for case study of existing use cases.
I’m reading it now. So far, I’m finding it very helpful.
