Is data downloading routed through IPFS gateway?

Hello:

When some one request a file through IPFS gateway, is the data go through IPFS gateway server then to the requester or it will be mapped to downloaded directly from node to visitors?

If it route through gateway server then this mean the gateway should be able to handel or that traffic serverd through it, correct?

Yes, if you prefer to use gateways, the data is fetched by the gateway and then provided to your HTTP client.

This means that the Gateway needs to be updated and with enough resources to handle the storage and traffic.
