Beloga: Decentralized blogging platform powered by IPFS

Hey, folks!

We’re passionate about making a positive impact to world press freedom by making news and articles more accessible and accurate. Studies have shown that the world press freedom has taken a hit recently due to geopolitical risks and misinformation.

Therefore, we’ve launched a new blogging platform (https://beloga.xyz/) with two amazing features:

  1. Immutable Copies using IPFS: Your posts are securely stored and decentralized, making them tamper-proof and censorship-resistant.
  2. Fact-Check Insights: We prioritize accuracy! A summary list of claims will be extracted for each article published on the platform. Clicking each claim will search + summarize a few sources related to the claim so that you can decide if the claim is reliable or not.

We hope that we’ll be able to get some feedback about this platform. If you would like to, feel free to sign up for an account at Beloga or join us at our discord Beloga Collective

Hoping this could be a game changer for independent journalists and writers.

The automated search for sources of claims is amazing! Is is available as its own thing?

Hi @Akita ! Not at the moment unfortunately, but we’re open to considering it :slightly_smiling_face: do you have some use cases in mind?

Very cool and thanks for sharing!! I hope to see this make an impact and follow your development

How is it decentralized and censorship resistant when terms of service says you have the right to monitor and moderate it? How is it an alternative to mass media when the fact insights reference sources under centralized control? Even the reach seems to be under manual or algorithmic control. Mentioning “the interest of our users” implies that you own the platform and control it as you please.

My understanding is each post is also a CID so you could in theory re-pin your post using any other service (or your own nodes).

Hi @mar1n3r0 , exactly as @Discordian described it. Each article is also published on IPFS and you can in pin it + re-post it elsewhere if you’d like. We’re threading really carefully when it comes to freedom of speech as we learn from other platforms who have tried to follow this path. We try to meet in the middle by guaranteeing freedom of speech but not freedom of reach for now (our powers mostly extends to only deranking / moderating from the discovery page). This would absolve us from the responsibility of owning the data as a company in case it ever becomes a legal issue.

As for the AI assisted fact insights, I do agree that some transparency would be good here though, but I think it would be hard to make it fully decentralized without sacrificing usability.

Open to suggestions on how we can make Beloga a better platform though!
