Connecting New Archiving Project || Cultural Memory Lab, Gray Area/TechSoup/Filecoin Foundation

Hey all!

Not sure if there’s still a lot of movement in this category (last post was 3 years ago!), but trying to connect to like-minded folks and figured it was worth a shot.

I’m a memory worker based in Kansas City, MO and my archival project was recently selected for Gray Area, Filecoin Foundation, and TechSoup’s “Cultural Memory Lab”–a chance for civil society organizations and community archives to explore using decentralized web technologies in our practices.

The project I entered the lab with is called {B/qKC}, and is a digital community archive of Black queer midwestern history in the United States.

That said, I’m obviously a noob, but I was able to launch the website for {B/qKC} using open-source software and self-hosting––and, most important to this discussion board, was able to use IPFS to store materials for the archive (as part of the 3-2-1-1-0 method, course). Materials are serviced via a dedicated Filebase gateway, and I have my materials pinned on Filebase, Storacha and my desktop, but hoping to create my own self-hosted IPFS node in the near future.

More about all the tech we’re using on our site (and the site itself) here: https://bqkc.1800nasi.net

If, by chance, there are still people on this category, hoping to connect with folks as I grow in this space and, dually, support other projects. Thank you!
