Recently main IPFS public gateway, ipfs.io, was COMPLETELY blocked in Russia.
So I needed to switch my gateways asap and its not that hard to do.
The hard thing here is that many other gateways are malfunctioning. I particularly need proper ipns support. So I tried filebase.
IPNS in filebase gateway is “supported”, but malfunctioning.
You can compare it easily:
Here you can see that VERSION_W_2.76 and VERSION_L_2.75 (or later if you see this post in the future) are the only ones that should be retrievable. So the link
Should always end-up with 404 error. Because that’s an old file it shouldn’t exist now via this IPNS link. But why does Filebase ALWAYS retrieving old non-existent files? Why
In Filebase is a valid link? So I am dealing not only with an internal censorship, but also with malfunctioning gateways! How can I contact them so the old IPNS files via their links are no longer retrievable?
I said that the main gateway ipfs.io was blocked in Russia. I already migrated on dweb. But firstly I tried to use filebase. Filebase is not working correctly because IPNS here is broken. That was sad because what will I do if dweb is blocked? For example pinata is not supporting IPNS entirely Filebase wanted to support it but something broke.
“You don’t want to use IPFS” it is not true gateway is a valid method of accessing IPFS. It is convenient you can’t force use kubo everyone.
Sorry, maybe you can explain how running your own gateway is not free? The only reason I could think of here is you need to retrieve the content from a device that can not install the software, and running your own gateway would require getting a PC.
I don’t mean to sound hostile, but it is strange to me that you would imply there is a cost to using your own gateway, but at the same time, think it’s appropriate to use volunteer freely contributed resources instead.
In any case, bringing this back on topic, I was never able to replicate the issue you reported here. Clicking your filebase link has always brought me to 404, so I’m wondering if your browser was just returning cached content.
Edit: Sorry, I realized later you are probably needing a way to provide the downloads to others, and in this case, running your own gateway implies a creating a public gateway. . Agree that’s not a good idea.
